the uniforms

What is a Police Station without uniforms? They keep the station running, they do the little things, they take care of all the mundane tasks, they patrol the harbour, they deal with repetitive routine enquiries. They are in the background of the show but all have their chance to see the action and to shine within their job.

Tommy

Senior Constable Thomas Tavita was strong, keen, always easy-going and friendly. He was from Samoa and his father worked on a fishing boat. Although he enjoyed working on the Nemesis, he tried to get as much experience as he could with the hope of one day maybe becoming a detective. At one stage he was engaged to Rhonda, a nurse, and her death hit him hard, especially as she died in suspicious circumstances. Tommy left on long-service leave and was never seen again.

Fiona Cassidy

Senior Constable Fiona Cassidy was the rose amongst the thorns - the tough and fiesty blonde on the Nemesis, able to match her male colleagues in all aspects of the job. Her father owned a law firm and her two older brothers were also lawyers, so of course Fi was expected to become a lawyer. However being strong and independent, she chose to join the police service. Her background created some tension between herself and Terry, he felt that she was a rich girl playing copper. Their relationship did develop over time and they became much more than friends.

Gavin Sykes

Senior Constable Gavin Sykes was the boy from the bush with a love of boats. He was known for putting his foot in things and getting into fights, but most of the time he was good at what he did. With many colleagues leaving or dying, Gavin was one of the three original Rats to survive the entire series. Often unlucky in love, in the end Gavin was the only Rat to ever have a surviving relationship. He married Eva, whom he met on the harbour when her kayak had been overturned. In the final episode their baby girl was born as Gavin pulled through after a near-fatal shooting incident.

Tayler Johnson

Constable Tayler Johnson was the young, enthusiastic constable who joined the Police Service because of her Aunty Helen. When Tayler took a bullet aimed at Jack and nearly died, her father blamed Helen, but in the end the incident helped begin reconciliation between the brother and sister. Although not as strong as the boys on the Nemesis, Tayler was determined to keep up and she did her job well. Tayler had a brief romantic affair with Gavin, but it was left at short and sweet. After the turmoil following Rachel's death, Tayler transferred to PolAir.

Donna Janevski

Constable Donna Janevski started at the Water Police as a probationary constable, behind the front desk. She was young and uncertain and was often seen bursting into tears over tragic cases or at the slightest reprimand. Her confidence slowly grew and by the end she efficiently managed the front desk and the radio, helping the station run as smoothly as possible. Donna had a crush on Matt from the moment he walked in the door and although they did have a one-night stand after she had been through a kidnapping ordeal, Matt never really reciprocated her feelings.

Donna
Matthew Quinn

Senior Constable Matthew Quinn was a cocky young member of the boat crew. He joined after Tommy left, moving from Western Australia. He had been involved in a car chase which resulted in an accident, killing innocent people. Although he was not to blame, it took him a while to move on. Matt was a bit of a ladies man, which more often than not got him into some sort of trouble. He was a larrikin and a show off, but he worked well with Gavin on the Nemesis.
